  • You have lost a key and don't want anyone else to be able to use it to enter your home.

  • You are moving into a new home and don't want to use the old keys.

  • You have been the victim of a break-in and want to make sure that the burglars can't return.

  • You have a roommate or employee who is leaving and you don't want them to have access to your home anymore.

Rekeying your house locks is a relatively inexpensive and easy way to improve your home security.

Rekeying a lock is the process of changing the internal mechanism of a lock so that it can only be opened by a new key. This is often done when someone has lost a key, or when they want to prevent unauthorized access to a building or room.

Here are some of the reasons why you might want to rekey your locks:

  • You have lost a key.

  • You have moved into a new home or apartment.

  • You have fired an employee or roommate.

  • You want to prevent unauthorized access to your home or business.

There are two ways to rekey a lock:

  • DIY: You can rekey a lock yourself with a rekeying kit. These kits are available at most hardware stores.

  • Professional: You can hire Liberty Lock Shop to rekey your locks. This is a good option if you are not comfortable rekeying locks yourself, or if you have multiple locks that need to be rekeyed.

Here are the steps involved in rekeying a lock:

  1. Remove the lock cylinder: The lock cylinder is the small metal cylinder that the key fits into. To remove the lock cylinder, you will need to use a screwdriver or other tool to pry it out of the lock.

  2. Remove the old pins: The old pins are the small metal pins that hold the tumblers in place. To remove the old pins, you will need to use a small tool, such as a paperclip or a toothpick, to push them out of the lock cylinder.

  3. Insert the new pins: The new pins are the small metal pins that will come with your rekeying kit. To insert the new pins, you will need to use a small tool, such as a paperclip or a toothpick, to push them into the lock cylinder.

  4. Insert the new key: The new key is the key that will open the lock after it has been rekeyed. To insert the new key, you will simply need to turn it in the lock until it clicks into place.

  5. Reinstall the lock cylinder: To reinstall the lock cylinder, you will simply need to push it back into the lock.

Here are some tips for rekeying locks:

  • Be patient. Rekeying a lock can be a bit tricky, so be patient and take your time.

  • Use the right tools. You will need a screwdriver, a paperclip, or a toothpick to rekey a lock.

  • Make sure you have the right key. You will need the new key to rekey a lock.

  • If you are not comfortable rekeying a lock yourself, hire Liberty Lock Shop.
